SNORKELING

The second longest barrier reef in the world runs along the coast of Belize. This makes for great snorkeling just about anywhere along the reef you choose. Moreover, the entire reef system in front of Caye Caulker is in the process of being converted into a Marine Reserve. Fishing will only be allowed in certain parts, with the major part of the reef area used in ecological sound practices. Snorkeling spots are usually waist deep to about 6 feet in depts. All tour boats carry life preservers for beginning swimmers. All snorkeling spots are also kid-friendly. So, bring the whole family. Here are a couple of our most popular snorkeling tours:

LOCAL REEF TOUR
DURATION: HALF DAY, DEPARTS: 9:00 A.M. OR 1:30 P.M., PRICE: $25.00 U.S.
Welcome to some of the most amazing snorkeling spots in the world. Feeling lazy this morning?? No problem! Our half day snorkeling tour departs either in the morning or the afternoon, depending on your mood. This includes two snorkel stops at the local reef in front of Caye Caulker.

One stop is at our very own locally cultivated Shark and Ray Village. This is a smaller version of the much larger Shark and Ray Alley, but overflows with the same mystique and excitement as the larger version. Located only a five minute boat ride from the island, you can snorkel to your heart's content in WAIST DEEP water among these friendly creatures. The tour guide actually holds these creatures and brings them to you to pet. Touch the grainy skin of a nurse shark and live to tell home about it! Feel the friendly sting rays bump into your leg and still live to tell home about it! This is truly an amazing trip. Bring your camera to capture the moment, as no one at home will believe you!

Caught your breath after that snorkel stop yet? The second snorkeling stop is just another few minutes away, a selection made by the guide. There are so many beautiful spots that just about anywhere is a perfect spot. Since this is inside the barrier reef, the water is usually shallow enough to stand in.

Gear is included in the price.

Enjoy your trip!

HOL CHAN MARINE RESERVE SNORKEL TRIP
DURATION: FULL DAY, DEPARTS: 10:30 A.M., PRICE: $50 U.S.
Got a whole day to spare? Then this snorkel trip is for you. Departure time is at 10:30 in the morning. Be at the snorkel shop at 10:15 to fit your gear. It's now 10:30 a.m. Away we go!!

First stop is at the Hol Chan Marine Park. The Hol Chan Marine Park is an underwater park teeming with marine life. It is not unusual to spot formations of rays or even several sharks. Since this is a protected area, and the guides are keen on feeding the fish, several schools have gone back home to notify their family and friends of the bountiful life here and what we have now is simply nothing short of an amazing wild aquarium. Friendly fishes are everywhere. Accustomed to the bait or "chump" thrown their way by the guides, the fish come clamoring even to the sound of the boat engine. Water depth in the marine park can range anywhere from waist deep to about 15 feet deep, depending on what spot you are. There is a $2.50 U.S. fee for visitors to enter the park area, so please remember to bring that along with you.

Done snorkeling and hungry? Cool! Second stop after the Marine Park is on neighboring Ambergris Caye. Bring your own lunch or you can purchase lunch there. Or let us know in advance and we will arrange for a box lunch for you (for an additional $5 U.S.). Ambergris Caye is the largest and most inhabited island in Belize. Take your time and tour the village. Lag time here is about an hour and a half.

Still in the adventurous mode? Let's head back in the boat then to our third stop (2nd snorkeling stop), the Coral Gardens. The Coral Gardens is as its name says. It is a patch of reef area where the corals form gardens around you. Snorkel among the varied corals in this area and spot some strange looking exotic fish. When you get tired, it's time to continue.

Third snorkeling stop is at the famous Shark and Ray Alley. Shark and Ray Alley is an area of the reef, aptly named because of the large amount of hugely curious sharks and sting rays that inhabit the area. Used to being fed by the guides, they come swarming as soon as the sound of the boat engine is heard. Pet a shark. Your guide will bring it to you. Touch a stingray. Your guide will bring it to you.

And for this trip, be sure to bring your camera. No one at home will believe you!!

Take care and enjoy the trip!

MANATEE WATCHING TRIP
$45 U.S. PER PERSON
Welcome to a day of fun! The Manatee Watching trip includes three stops, one to view the manatees in their natural habitat, one to snorkel and picnic at Goff's Caye ( a small island located right on the reef) and a stop to swim with sharks and rays on the way home. All along the Barrier Reef of Belize is spectacular snorkeling. These are but two of those stops. Top that with a little cavorting with the local West Indian Manatees and you will see that days like these are what island life is made up of. Lunch is not included. Please bring a packed lunch as there is no place to purchase food once the boat sets off.

BLUE HOLE SNORKELING TRIP
$125 U.S. PER PERSON

During the day, you are also treated to snacks after each snorkel stop, fruit, water, soda pops and lunch is also provided. Lunch stop is at Half Moon Caye Island, your second snorkeling stop. This is a very breathtaking and beautiful trip, done over the most amazing shades of blue and green waters.
